It does not matter whether you are already a paralegal or hope to become one. it does not matter where you live either - international members are very welcome.

You do not need to study with us to join us.

There is a membership grade for everyone – guaranteed!

How to join

You can apply to join us right now by completing the online application form, or you can download the form for completion later - jump to the end of this page if you have enough information to apply immediately.

Professional designations/membership grades available

Our membership grades are also formal professional designations/qualifications. Which one is right for you depends mostly on how much legal practice experience (LPE) you already have:

Affiliate Member:             if you have no LPE

Registered Paralegal:      if you have less that 4 years’ LPE

Certified Paralegal:          if you have more than 4 years’ LPE, but less than 7 years

Qualified Paralegal:         if you have more than 7 years’ LPE

Fast-tracking & more detailed information generally

We do recognise many legal qualifications. They are not essential for membership. However if you do have one then you can fast-track as it will count as LPE. Successful completion of some practice-orientated courses will allow you to become a Registered Paralegal even without LPE.

Don't worry if you get something wrong, or miss something out during the application process. We don't like bureaucracy and any problems you have during this application process can be easily sorted out in a way that won't harm your application.

Corporate members

Corporate member: If your organisation wants to join then LPE is not relevant. Your organisation merely needs to be one which offers legal services or ancillary legal services (e.g. legal recruitment, training or publishing)
