3. IoP Professional Designation

The paralegal profession is largely unregulated. Therefore if you want to be seen as a professional legal practitioner then you should look to upgrade to one of the higher grades of membership: Associate Paralegal; Qualified Paralegal or Fellow of the IOP. Each of these professional qualifications grants you the right to use letters after your name: A.Inst.Pa or Q.Inst.Pa or F.Inst.Pa. Read more by clicking here.

All members will receive ‘The Paralegal’ monthly e-journal containing essential information for paralegals, including important changes in law and practice and sector news.

7. Access to the paralegal forum

All members have access to our paralegal legal forum via LinkedIn where they can engage with thousands of paralegals, take part in debates and gain information on paralegal opportunities. Our forum is the largest paralegal forum on LinkedIn.

8. Eligibility to become a registered and or regulated member of the Professional Paralegal Register

The Professional Paralegal Register (PPR) is a voluntary regulatory scheme to promote professional paralegals as a recognised fourth arm of the legal profession and to enhance consumer choice and protection. The PPR is the voluntary regulator for all paralegals in England and Wales.

9. Free affiliate membership with the New York City Paralegal Associate

Free reciprocal membership of the NYCPA is open to all Associate, Qualified and Fellow of the IOP members. Contact the Institute’s Membership Secretary if you wish to join the NYCPA (office@theiop.org)

10. Discounted membership with the Royal Over-Seas League

All Institute members are eligible to apply to join the Royal Over-Seas League club – and at discounted corporate rates. The ROL has club houses in St James’ London and Edinburgh, and gives access to some 80 prestigious clubs worldwide. See http://www.rosl.org.uk/

11. Confirmed right to countersign passports

The government's Identity and Passport Service requires passport applications and any accompanying photographs to be countersigned by someone from the list of suitable professions. Members of the Institute who have achieved Associate Paralegal, Qualified Paralegal or Fellow of the IOP status are eligible.
